Interest in N.Z. jumpers
NZPA London New Zealand jumpers entered for the Grand National have attracted the interest of two of Britain’s top jumps jockeys. John Francbme, currently fifth on the jockeys table with 40 winners, is a likely partner to Chumson in the Aintree (Liverpool) race on March 29. And Ron Barry, sixth on the table, just two winners down, will ride So and So if freed from stable commitments to Man Alive, which is unlikely’ to start. Barry is regarded as one of the most experienced jockeys around the tough 7500 m National course with its world famous fences like Becher’s Brook and the Chair. A former champion National Hunt rider, his likely pairing with the New Zealand horse could shorten the currently attractive 33-to-1 odds being offered on So and So. Barry rode the Sobig — Aurora’s Pride 11-year-old when the gelding finished second at Sandown recently. The two other .New Zealand horses entered for the big chase, Royal Stuart and Purdo , are both still firm entries after the first declaration last week.
