Mt Cook ahead
The unaudited pre-tax profit of The Mount, Cook Group, Ltd, rose 15.5 per cent to $41,144 in the six months to November 30, according to a brief halfyearly announcement. It should be noted that the group had a seasonal trading pattern, and that normal trading in the half-year usually showed a loss or broke’even, the report said. The profit was achieved in spite of the slightly late start to the ski-ing season at Coronet Peak.
Increasing fuel costs were of concern, and were causing fares to rise. The company, however, was continuing its aggressive marketing policies both internally and overseas, the report said. Turnover increased 18.7 per cent to $10,373,509, and the tax provision rose $4lOO to $14,400.
