Milk music favoured
Paparua County’s four district councils are in favour of milkmen playing music on deliveries. The County Councl will make a decision on March 3. At district council meetings this week councillors approved deliveries in daylight hours. Slight differences over delivery times and the need for, reviewing the .decision are expected to be ironed out by the County Council. Councillors ; v.wondered' why the Canterbury : Milk " Vendors’ Association had applied to play only one tune. Milkmen might be tired of it after 12 months, councillors said. The Rural District Council deferred a decision on a complaint by Mr R. H. Wills, of
Tai Tapu, that* Rhodes Road was not sealed. Mr Wills said that rates of $lO,OOO were collected each year from residents on the road who did not have the benefits of highpressure water supply, sewerage, or a gate collection of rubbish. ‘ The council decided that the matter be discussed wherr estimates were set in May. The council is examining its liability for overflow from a soakpit at-the , dead end of a water-race in’ “Newton s Road. The overflow is said to flood a private property. A legal opinion sought by the council said it had to be proved that flooding on the property was caused by soak pit overflow, and not simply
by run-off from the property, before the council would be liable. Vehicle rights-of-way at i the Hendersons Road-Cash-mere Road junction have not yet been resolved. At present, right-turning traffic from Hendersons“Road gives ; way to south-bound Cash- ' mere Road traffic. On a councillor’s assertion that Henderson Road traffic should have right of way, in accord with the. right-hand rule, the ; council asked the Ministry of ' Transport to investigate. Min- . istry recommendations based : on a Cashmere Road give-way , scheme were not acceptable to councillors, however, and ! the matter has been returned i to the Ministry for further ’ study.
