Overseas interest in cheap power
PA Wellington Twelve overseas companies have shown an interest in negotiating an electricity price to develop export-baoed industries in New Zealand, according to the Minister of Trade and Industry (Mr Adams-Schnei-der) The proposals covered aluminimum, nicket, ferro silicon, and silicon carbide, he said. “Serious negotiations are in full train, or will soon be undertaken, with some six companies,” the Minister said. Mr Adams-Schneider did not name the companies. He said that while it was impossible to set deadlines, he hoped there would be a dear indication by the end of next month as to what industries were likely to be set up. With the demand for power less than expected, the Government last year offered surplus electricity for export-based industries.. Mr Adams-Schneider said the response had been most encouraging.
