Liquor still cheap
The liquor “price war” that hit Christchurch last Christmas is still simmering, but few drinkers appear to be aware of it, judging by the trickle of patrons in city bottle stores. Some contestants, such as the Green Bottle Stores, appear to have withdrawn from “hostilities,” and have returned to normal price lists. The two main combatants, Warner’s and Wilson Neill, share the bargains for those whose liquor cabinets did not sur-
vive Christmas-New Year I festivities. Warner’s still sells the , cheapest beer, at $7.25 a i dozen. Those whose tastes j reach the top shelf can J also buy gin at $6.40 for a 750 ml bottle, vodka at $6.45, and New Zealand j whisky at $7.20. The cheapest Scotch whisky, however, is to be j found at Wilson Neill at •> $10.30 for a 750 ml bottle. ; Black rum sells at $7.70, and white rum at $7.99. ' Brandy costs $8.99 at ■ both bottle stores.
