Ehrich Weiss — others wise known as Harry Houdini — was an American escapologist and magician who lived from 1873 to 1926. “The Truth About Houdini” screens on TV2 tonight.
His life story has been told in numerous films — the' two most memorable being George Pal’s 1953 production starring Tony. Curtis, in the lead role; and a made-for-television drama completed in the late 1970 s starring Paul Michael Glaser (Starsky from the “Starsky and
Hutch” series) in the title role. Houdini’s expertise and sleight of hand became known the would over and made him tee highest paid performer of his era. The man no prison could hold ... the man who walked through walls if not on wfateg ... Jhe
handcuff king — all of. these accolades were bestowed on Houdini. But the question remained: “How did he do it?” The documentary features historic stills and movie footage, along with an extraordinary recording made at a seance held on Halloween night, October 31, 1936 — tee tenth anniversary of his death.
