Five seek seats on Meat Board
Two Canterbury farmers seek seats on the Meat Board. They are Messrs B. E. Lili, of Montaito, in MidCanterbury, and J. O. Acland, of Mount Peel station, in South Canterbury. They were among five nominations for two seats on the board which closed yesterday. The terms of two sitting members of the board are due to expire — They are Messrs Charles Hilgendorf, of Sherwood, in MidCanterbury, and J. L. Daniell, of Masterton. Mr Hilgendorf, who has been a member of the board since 1961 and chairman since 1972, does not seek re-elec-tion, but Mr Daniell is again a candidate. The other candidates include Mr W. R. Martin, of Ahuroa, North Auckland, a former member of the board, and Mr N. D. Mcßae, of Wyndham, Southland, • who has been one of the Government’s nominees on the board since 1976 and who now seeks to gain membership of the board as a pro-, ducer representative. The present deputy chairman of the board, Mr A. M. Begg, was also a Government nominee before he was elected a producer representative, in the process unseating a sitting member. The candidates will face the electoral committee of the board on March -26. Until recently, Mr Lili has been a member of the committee, which elects producer representatives on the Meat and Wool Boards, and has had to resign to contest the board election. Both he and Mr Acland are farming leaders in their respective districts. Mr Acland, who is the eldest son of the former, chairman of the Wool Board, Sir John Acland, has sought membership of the electoral committee. i.
