Mardi Gras princesses
The Mardi Gras Queen competition will be a highlight of the festivities at Darfield on Saturday. Five girls have 1 been entered in -the contest by local sports clubs and fun d-raising activities have been • in progress since October last year. The prize of a trip for two to Auckland, plus transport and accommodation, will be won by
the princess whose supporters have collected the largest sum, and all proceeds are to be donated to the Malvern Recreation and Social Centre Building Fund.
The amount of money raised by the girls, all residents of Malvern County, is expected to be in excess of $BOOO by the time judging is completed on Saturday. Swima-thons, cake stalls, raffles, a pony show and the Hokitika to Darfield marathon have all contributed to the success of the contest
Photographs of the princesses have been displayed on a noticeboard i the main street of Darfield for some time and five flags show the progress of each contestant.
