Attempt to run over bar manager
PA Auckland An attempt was made to run over the bar manager of the Ellerslie Bowling Club twice on Saturday night in
what the police believe may have been a forerunner to an attempted robbery. The manager, Mr I. McEvoy, was leaving the club after closing up when he was nearly run down by a person driving a dark-blue car.
The car missed Mr McEvoy at the first attempt, and then turned.round and made a second attempt, that also narrowly failed. Detectives are working on the theory that the driver was trying to knock Mr McEvoy down, and snatch the keys to the safe and the club alarm system. Mr McEvoy was shaken but unhurt. ■ Police inquiries are continuing into the incident near the Katana St club•house. • ; r . Z : . ..
