Triple tie in chess
PA' Wellington Four years ago there was a three-way tie in the national chess championship in Upper Hutt 'and yesterday there was another — but Ortvin Sarapu was the only ingredient common to both. Sarapu, who notched his seventeenth title, agreed to' an early draw, leaving Vernon Small of Christchurch and Ewen Green of Auckland to find the wins in their games. Both duly won and reached the necessary eight
points. Small also received the prize for the best result playing black. Fourth prize went to Roger Nokes on seven and Nigel Metge, with six points, secured fifth.
Best result of a non priza winner against the prizes winners was recorded .by Peter Weir, of Auckland. The remaining points totals were: Lev Aptekar, 5J* Robert Smith, 5; Pete? Stuart and- Peter Weir, David Beach and Tony Car-* pinter, 4; M. Evans, I|.
