Fan club’s incentives
If the Canterbury women’s cricket team retains the HallyburtonJohnstone Shield at the national tournament which began at Porritt Park yesterday, there should be no shortage of liquid refreshments to mark the occasion. An informal meeting of some of the players’ husbands was held during the first day yesterday, leading to the formation of T.C.W.C.T.R.T.H.8.J.5.P.A.1. F.C. (or. The Canterbury Women’s Cricket Team
Retaining The HallyburtonJohnstone Shield Performance and Incentive Fan Club). The “fans,’’ who have also been helping with pitch rolling and sweeping between innings, have offered a list of incentives for outstanding individual and team efforts over the 10 days of the tournament. A hat-trick or a six will earn a bottle of champagne, and six bottles of beer will go into the pool for any centuries. Half-centuries, partner-
ships of 100 or more, a bowler taking five or more wickets, and dismissing the opposition for less than 150, will add three more bottles. Every catch, run-out, stumping or toss that is won counts for one bottle of beer; and a rival dismissed for no score has a value of one bottle of lemonade. At the end of the first day the “fan club” owed the Canterbury team 13 bottles of beer and four bottles of lemonade.
