Top vaulters coming
Three of the four overseas pole vaulters who have entered for the international meeting at Queen Elizabeth II Park on January 19 have cleared 5.50 m —79 cm higher than the
national resident record. Frank Estes (United States) is the only one who has yet to achieve this level. His best is 5.48ni. The four, who represent the greatest gathering of
pole vaulting talent to come to New Zealand, are led by the silver medallist at the Montreal Olympic Games, Antti Kalliomaki. (Finland). The others are Billy Olsen (United States),
and Kimmo Pallonen (Finland). Mike Ritchie, of Christchurch, holds the New Zealand resident record of 4.71 m.
