Boys' home closed
The St Joseph’s Boys' Home at Halswell, run by, the Nazareth Sisters, has ♦een closed. • The home had become' uneconomic to run. said. Father T. J. Cahill, the i director of Catholic Social! Services. There had also, been a move against caring! for children in big in- > stitutions. Some of the 15 boys who lived in the home have! moved to Nazareth House.! in Brougham Street, where a! new home is being built. I There had been up to 801 children at St Joseph’s but i numbers had been reduced! gradually once it was de-! tided to close the home. . The property is owned by the Eliza White Trust. I Father Cahill said he didi not know what would be! done with it.
