New book on race relations
PA Auck and A book on Maori pak aa relations, described as a volume which "shines light into corners left in darkness." has been launched in the Auckland War Memorial Museum The book, "He Matapuna," was launched in a ceremony highlighted by stirring Maori oratory which culminated in the blessing of the volume by the Bishop of Auckland (the Rt Rev. P. A. Reeves). At times during the two-part ceremony the normally hushed museum ■ resounded to the sound of Maori chanting and sing- ! ing. The publication, cabled “A Source.” in English and sub-titled “Some Maori Perspectives." has been produced by the New I Zealand Planning Council. About 150 people, including the distinguished Maori elder. Sir James Henare, with the Minister of Trade and Industry (Mr Adam s-Schneider) and high-ranking public servants, attended the twohour ceremony.
