Bisphan, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court, Greymouth, | yesterday when Murray John Fearn, of Christchurch, laged 20, a glass sorter, appeared for sentence on charges of causing the death of Herbert John Leach at Kokatahi, on August 22. by carelessly using a .22 calibre rifle and of not having a permit for the rifle. The Court had been told previously that the defendant and Mr Leach had been on a rabbit-shooting expedition when the incident occurred, the defendant had [thought he was out of am- : munition when he pulled the trigger. A bullet had hit Mr Leach, who had died some hours later. Mr J. B. Annabell, for the defendant, said that the rifle had been obtained from the defendant’s parents.
