Bay Park race not in series

An international Formula Pacific single-seater motor race will be run at Bay Park, Tauranga, this month, but it will not be part of the newly named Aurora AFX series. The Bay Park promoters were apparently not convinced that enough overseas drivers would come to New Zealand to justify the $ll,OOO that they had to guarantee for their round, traditionally the first of the New Zealand series. However, the Aurora series organisers have agreed to make the series drivers available to race in a special Bay Park event if they so choose. The race will carry a stake Of $5OOO, and will be the feature event of the Bay Park meeting on Sunday, December 30. It should be a good warm-up for the drivers before the Aurora AFX series, which starts with the New Zealand Grand Prix at Pukekohe on January 12, and then goes to Manfeild (January 20), Wigram (January 27) and back to Pukekohe (February 3).
