Subdivision at Wainui begins
Work has begun on the ! five-stage subdivision at (Wainui, Akaroa Harbour. A Christchurch property ■ developer, Mr R. B. McKenzie, has said that about 16 sections had been sold. All sections in the first stage of the development should have titles in about a year. A minor road ■ had been cut and sections I were now being marked out. Demand had been strong i for the sections in the last ' three or four months, Mr McKenzie said. They had 1 been selling at prices from $7OOO to $7500 at the rate of Jone or two a week. The Akaroa County Coun-
cil gave permission in July,: J 977, for two stages to go! ahead, but has yet to give special planning consent for the remaining three. Consent for stages 1 and 2 was given by the council after Mr: McKenzie took his case to appeal in 1976. Stage 1 has 21 building sites, one of which will be used for a multi-unit development. Stage 2 allows for no more than 26 dwelling units, but up to half of them can be multi-unit, cluster or courtyard developments. Mr McKenzie said stage 1 was “very close to being’ sold out.”
