Prisoner arrested
PA Auckland A Paremoremo prisoner serving a 21-year sentence tor burglary and firearms offences was yesterday arrested and charged with the assault of a fellow inmate, James Edmund Roland Arnold. Arnold had started a 14year sentence on Friday for the multiple rape of a Filipino girl, aged 12. He was found bleeding and semi-conscious with facial injuries in the television room of the classification
wing at the jail on Sunday afternoon. He underwent surgery at Middlemore Hospital for a broken cheekbone yesterday afternoon. After an internal prison inquiry, Takapuna detectives were called in. Yesterday morning they questioned nine inmates before making the arrest. A prisoner, aged 24, will apear in the Magistrate’s Court at North Shore later this week, charged with assault.
