Rise likely soon in milk price
PA Auckland Reports that the price ol milk would rise in January by 3 cents were describee by a senior Ministry ol Agriculture economist yester day as pure speculation. Mr G. H. Boyd said that while a decision was imminent, there had been no confirmation that the increase would be 3c for a 600 ml bottle. No announcement has yeti been made by the Under-'
I Secretary of Agriculture (Mr i Talbot) but his secretary JMr S. J. Bishop) said it was ■reasonable” that milk would rise by 2c or 3c, and a decision was likely within the I next fortnight. However. Mr Boyd also isaid that consumers could ! expect to face regular increases in the price of milk. "The stabilisation of the milk subsidy at $3O million means that the rising cost of distribution, processing, and handling must be passed on [to the consumer,” he said. ; The last price increase was |on April 1 when milk rose [from 10c to 15c.
