Even Speed’s prospects bright

Special correspondent Wellington A fast finishing second to Santoza in the corresponding event on Monday night, Even Speed should gain reward for two placed performances when he contests the Rangiora Handicap, the first leg of the double at Hutt Park tonight. Even Speed's effort for second on Monday was exceptional as he was held up for a run until at the top of the straight and then, after giving Santoza a start of eight lengths, powered home to fail by only threequarters of a length. A betting plunge on Hano Direct went slightly astray when she could only manage fourth after a good run on Monday. She still looks likely to be improved by that race and, drawn well again, she could offer Even Speed the sternest opposition. Stormy Morn cannot be dropped for his failure on the first night. He is a fine stayer and will appreciate the extra distance tonight. The unbeaten Andy Robb looks i one of the best prospects in the Tainui Pace, the second leg of the double, but he will face strong opposition in the form of Sharvid Puzzle and Little Wave.
