Hope on strike
PA Wellington Further discussions this week might avert a national strike by oil tanker drivers, according to the Prime Minister (Mr Muldoon) last evening. Tanker drivers are threatening to strike later this week over an 11.7 per cent pay increase, redundancy and holidays. The Minister of Labour
(Mr Bolger), after talking with the parties involved, had said that the matter might be resolved during further discussions this week. However, time alone would tell, Mr Muldoon said. Oil tanker drivers in Timaru, Ashburton and Greymcuth have followed Christchurch drivers in voting to support a national 48-hour stoppage.
