Rounding off Squares
Long-proposed changes lor Latimer Square and iranmer Square — to help Iraffic move through instead if ground them—are included h the Citv Plan. The shape of Latimer Square would be altered the Dost, with Madras Street i turving through inside the louthem line of trees. "The deviation of Madras Street through Latimer Square is seen to be required If the level of service on this
corridor is to be maintained,”; a scheme statement says. A, suggested layout is in the scheme. Both eastern one-way! streets (Barbadoes and! Madras) will be widened sm; to three lanes from Purchas, Street south to Brougham' Street in the future, provid-| ing links from the St Albans' arterials without having a full-fledged motorway. Some day, a viaduct would! tie Gasson Street to Madrasi
; Street, crossing Carlyle , Street, the railway tracks and Moorhouse Avenue. In Cranmer Square, there ! would be “minor deviations” |of Montreal Street to improve traffic flows. But the .square’s formal arrangement i would be maintained. Montreal Street would continue past Kilmore Street ■on a deviation through the now abandoned Normal i School building.
