Gay Sovereign mare tops sale
PA Hamilton Coinette, a six-year-old Gold Sovereign mare offered on account of Sydney owner land breeder, Mr J. Cornish.' topped the Dalgety Mixed Sale at Te Rapa yesterday! when she fetched $BOOO. Coinette, which was sold with a filly at foot by Heir Presumptive and a positive test to Zamazaan, went to the bid of Mr H. D. Saunders, of Drury. Coinette, only lightly raced as a two-year-old, is out of the Tambel mare Ringabel and thus a half-sis-ter to the promising juvenile Mr Banyon. Ringabel is a half-sister to the high-class gallopers. Sharif and Far Time, and also to Beira, and is herself the dam of the good winner Tambelina and Dereveux as well as two other winners. Selling at the sale was generally slow, with a large inumber* of passings and' 1 withdrawals. Although most, of the stock offered was not expected to bring high prices, bidding was still disj appointing.
The second highest price for the day was $3OOO out- , layed by Tifox Lodge, Ma- ! tangi. for a chestnut filly by | Shifnal out of the winning mare Philaree. By Able Seaman out of 'Aggressor, Philaree is the dam of the good sprinter Shot Thru, also Shotaway and Hilaree. She was offered on account of Messrs J. B and W. R. Callaghan, of Pukekohe. Superb Lady, an attractive two-year-old filly by Ruling out of the Sobig mare Sister Clara, attracted considerable attention before being passed in at $7OOO. She was also offered by 'Mr Jim Cornish and had a reserve of $lO,OOO. Next highest passing was $6500 which was turned down by Mr Cornish for his four-year-old Battle-Waggon mare Small Arms. She was offered with a filly foal by Blarney Kiss at foot and has 'been covered by Taipan 11. She also had a reserve of $lO,OOO. Altogether 47 of the 87 lots offered were sold for a 1 total of $48,950.
