Late sport Three skiers named in N.Z. team
PA Wellington Three skiers were named last | evening to represent New Zea-1 land at the 1930 Winter OlympicGames at Placid, U.S.A. The skiers, approved by the executive of the New Zealand (Olympics and Commonwealth I Games Association on recommendation Olympic selection; panel are. Miss Fiona .Johnson, slalom giant slalom; Miss Anna Archibald, downhill, giant slalom; and Scott Kendall, giant slalom. It was agreed that other nominees may be considered as members of the team if they perform up to standard. The three skiers named are all experienced internationals. Fiona Johnson, aged 19. from Springfield (Canterbury;. has made five annual trips to Europe since 1975 and has been New Zealand’s top skier for the last two years. She specialises in the
'slalom and giant slalom events, but is also developing well n> I downhill. I Anna Archibald, aged 20. tron* ■ Christchurch, has made four an« nual visits to Europe. She* specialises n the high speed' downhill event and has had? specialised training wit!) the French and Italian teams. Scott Kendall, aged 20. front Auckland, first skied internationally in America at. the age of 11. More recently he has made three annual trips to Europe, with a base in Switzerland He specialises in giant slalom AH three competed in the 197 H World Championships in West. Germany. Kendall is a younger brother of Brett Kendall, who represented New Zealand at the 1976 WinteOlympics in Innsbruck. Miss Johnson is a niece of Annette Johnson, who skied for New Zealand in the 1932 Winter Olympics at Oslo.
