Tobacco prices rise
PA Wellington Cigarettes and tobacco cost more from the manufacturer from Monday. But the new charges will not be passed on to smokers until present wholesale and retail stocks have been sold. After that the price of a packet of 20 cigarettes in the shops will increase by
2c, a packet of 25 by 3c, and tobacco by 8c for a 50g packet. The increases “are due totally to increases in casts but tobacco also includes an increase in the distributive margins to the same levels as applicable to cigarettes,” said the Department of Trade and Industry.
