Riccarton stables take quinella
El Cossack and Karozshah brought off a o.uinella for Riccarton stables in the Milford Handicap on the second day of the Southland Racing Club's meeting yesterday, and supporters of the combination received $25 for each dollar. El Cossack is trained and Was ridden by Kevin Morton. who for much of this spring has been on the Southland circuit. El Cossack. a five-year-old son of El Mondo, failed over 1400 m at Wyndham at his previous Start,’ but he was too nippy* for the others at 1200 m yesterday.
Karozshah. running for Brydon Mills’s Riccarton stable, made a sharp run into the lead before they went far. and appeared to have most of the others in trouble just before the turn. But El Cossack, which had been in the third line, was not one of that number. Morton brought him forward for his challenge on straightening up and the top-weight won going away by a length and a quarter. Karozshah comfortably saved second by a length and a half, but Ramadan did well to reach third after starting wide out.
