Shipowner to discuss dispute
PA Auckland Mr Atle Jebsen, a partner in the Norwegian Kristian Jebsen Line, has arrived at Auckland for talks on the new Japan-Korea Service, which has prompted a Seamen’s Union dispute. The union black-listed the 1 6,50 0-tonne all-purpose freighter Altis for a week when she called at the port recently on her maiden voyage. The company has been accused of cross-trading. Jobs for unemployed New Zealand seamen had to be found aboard the Greek - owned and crewed vessels in the new service, the union said. Mr Jebsen will discuss the manning problem with the union.
