Tass rebukes Mr Talboys

NZPA-Reuter Moscow The Soviet news agency. Tass, has criticised the Minister of Foreign Affairs (Mr Talboys) for taking part in an American-led campaign of “political pressure’’ against South-East Asian countries. A Tass commentary said that Mr Talboys’s recent visits to member States of the Association of South-East Asian Nations (A.S.E.A.N) coincided with A.N.Z.U.S. Pact exercises in Australia which included amphibious landings. “United States strategists have decided to step up pressure on A.S.E.A.N. countries in order to complicate relations with Vietnam, and support the remnants of the Pol Pot bands in Kampuchea,” said Tass. The Soviet news agency accused Mr Talboys of uttering “inventions” about a Vietnamese threat to Thailand, which it said coincided with provocative appeals bv Washington and Peking to the A.S.E.A.N. States to arm themselves against a mythical threat from Hanoi.
