Motocross lead to Brady
Chris Brady produced [some devastating form to Itake a clear lead in the [Canterbury motocross championships at the second! round yesterday. Riding on the demanding Woodford Glen course Bradv, on a Kawasaki- 125. was a clear winner in two of [the three championship events yesterday beating the other two contenders for the I title, Robin Hampton and! Peter Guthrie, both of whom ride Suzuki 1255. ; Guthrie fought hard in the opening laps of the first round after Brady had taken the lead from the start. Guthrie took the front for a lap but then lost concentration and slipped back to fourth. Brady was then hardpressed' by Hampton and the young New Brighton rider Warren Timpson, who surprised many competitors with excellent form to take third. In the second round Brady again started well but seemed out of the running after
falling badly during the first : lap. He dropped back to fif-' teenth position but cut and thrust through most of his I opposition to finish a very [ creditable third. Guthrie excelled in this, race to take - a. reasonably! comfortable win from Hampton. It was Guthrie who led! from the start;of of the all important third race. Place; I takers in this race 'received! double points. However, Guthrie spun out and bogged down on one! of the tight corners letting Brady through. He finished about 17 seconds ahead of Hampton with a hard-charg-ing R. Buckingham (Suzuki RM2SO) third, and Guthrie* fourth. The points after two rounds (with one round to go) are: — Bradv 107, Hampton 78, J. Nicholls 60, R. Selby 54, Guthrie 45, and Timpson 43. The support classes and races for enduro machines produced some close racing
