Row over Coast gold plans
Wellington reporter i A row is brewing between developers and conservationists over the intention of Consolidated Tracers, Ltd. to mine for gold [at Sandfly Beach in South Westland, north-west of 'Franz Josef village. The firm has never held an exploration licence but has now applied for a mining licence at the site, where there has been occasional prospecting and mining for more than a century. A meeting will be held in I Wellington today to discuss the matter. The application is likely to be opposed by those who want Sandfly Beach either reserved or incorporated in Westland National Park. i
