Mr Taiboys opens talks in Bangkok
NZPA Bangkok Talks on the volatile IndoChina situation were begun in Bangkok yesterday afternoon by the Minister of Foreign Affairs (Mr Taiboys) and the Thai Prime Minister (General Kriangsak Chamanand).
Their discussions opened, against a background of fur-1 ther shelling across the Thai’ border by either Vietnamese troops or Kampuchean units of the Hanoi-backed Heng Samrin regime. It was expected they would discuss the border situation lat length, means of contain- ! ing the conflict, and diplomatic moves which might restore peace to the shattered region.
It was reported from New] York that New Zealand is among the co-sponsors of a resolution in the United Nations, introduced by the Association of South-East Asian Nations, calling for the withdrawal of all foreign troops from Kampuchea. Before starting discussions with the Thai leader, Mr Talboys visited a refugee transit centre in the Thai capital, Bangkok. There he and Mrs Talbovs talked with members of a refugee group of 123 scheduled to leave for New' Zealand on November 7.
