Happy Union hurt
NZPA Melbourne The New Zealand stayer, Happy Union, will not start in Tuesday's Melbourne Cup. The gelding has not responded to treatment for a knock on his off fore-leg. Jockey Peter Johnson, who had been booked to ride Happy Union, was immediately offered the mount on another New Zealand stayer. Governors’
Stakes winner Evander, but he cannot make the weight.
Evander's trainer, Mark Sullixan. wants to engage the New Zealand apprentice, Toby Autridge, who rode last year’s Melbourne Cup runner-up. Dandaleith. Autridge is booked for Our Big Gamble in the cup but he might be able to switch, because Our Big Gamble is now an unlikely starter because of an injury.
