Avonside I favoured
An Avonside I combination of Maurice Burrowes. Bill Scott and Bert Thompson, should prove far too strong for its five rivals when the summer A grade table tennis competition begins at the Selwyn Street hall this evening.
The other five teams are I Avonside 11, 111, and IV,
Linwood I and Riccarton I. However, none of these is likely to trouble Avonside I. Burrowes, one of the province's top players, was beaten only four
times during the last winter competition and finished with a 91.7 per cent record of success. Scott and Thompson are two of the most determined players in Canter-
bury. They should be capable of good returns in what seems certain to be one of the weakest summer competitions for several seasons.
With the exception of E grade, all regular grades. A through to F. will begin this week and a total of 61 entries has been received.
