’ Wellington reporter The film of Albert Wendt’s ‘best-selling New ZealandSamoan love story, “Sons: for the Return Home.” will; ‘be screen in five New Zea-i land centres — Auckland. Hamilton, Rotorua. Tauranga,; and Whangarei — before the; end of October. Other northern North Island centres will have; i screenings in November. ‘ with the Wellington premi-i | ere in February, and the South Island premiere in i Christchurch in March. ; The film has been given an unusual certificate by the Censor. It is approved for exhibition only to people 16
.years or over, but people! under 16 may see it if accompanied by a parent or teacher. A new paperback edition iof the book will be released Ito coincide with film screenling. The score for the film! i has been produced specially jby a Wellington composer. Malcolm Smith. The film is expected to be introduced to European audiences at the Cannes film festival next year. Much of the film was shot on location in Western Samoa and it is thought to be the first feature film shot there since Gary Cooper starred in “Return to Paradise” in 1952.
