Pickets planned in Peach case
NZPA London Demonstrators plan widespread pickets to mark the resumption of the Blair Peach inquest today. The Friends of Blair Peach Committee announced yesterday that trade unionists and members of the Anti-Nazi , League would picket at least 100 police stations through- . out Britain. The Cproner’s Court at , Hammersmith, West London, , will also be picketed, as it | has bn each occasion the in- ( quest has adjourned since Mr ; Peach died in April. The committee said: “The intention is to mount well disciplined and peaceful pro- 1 tests to spread the campaign to bring Mr Peach’s murd- . erers to justice and to demand the disbandment of the Special Patrol Group.”
The committee is pressing for the establishment of a public inquiry into Mr Peach’s death and seeks an end to the. increasingly controversial trials of 342 people charged with incidents at the demonstration in which he died. The tiny Coroner’s Court at Hammersmith is expected to be packed when the inquest gets fully underway today. Officials and the press have been asked to arrive early at the court and there are expected to be few seats left for the public. The court will hear evidence from witnesses about) the behaviour of the Special! Patrol Group at the Southall! riot. The inquest is expected to last for several weeks.
