Sponsored races at C.J.C. meeting
Sponsorships will allow for two new races at the Canterbury Jockey Club's meeting on December 8. With substantial assistance from Allied Liquor Merchants the club will stage a $lO,OOO weight-for-age race over 1600 m. It is expected that this will be an attractive lead-up to major holiday races, in particular the Timaru Cup, which is I
also run over 1600 m at weight-for-age. The sponsoring firm has '■ given an undertaking that it will be associated with the weight-for-age race, to be known as the Coruba Rum ! Stakes, for at least three years. A second sponsorship is ' being offered by Dominion Breweries, and it will go I into a $5OOO race over :2000m for Cl-3 horses.
