Plaster board developes into ever-bigger range

How much do you know about Gib Board —the familiar, economical plaster board that now has developed into a range of products? All are of good value and with the same benefits which Gib Board has offered for a generation or more—fire rating, sound reduction and vapour barrier qualities.

Provided the basic working instructions are followed. Gib Board can be handled easily by the average non-professional. It is designed to help people who wish to restore an old house, add an extension or build a new house.

You have to ask yourself: Where is your wall, to be and what is the final finish to be? Answer these questions and you will know which product from the Gib Board range will suit you best and how it should be finished. For example, if it is an exterior wall, you will be

wise to select Gib Foil to protect the insulation while providing a vapour barrier. Gib Board can be fixed two ways—vertically or horizontally'. You will achieve good results using the traditional method — vertical fixing, but today, the best results are obtained with horizontal fixing, especially if you want an improved finished surface to paint. Wallpaper or other coverings can be used on either system of fixing. There is another very special member of the Gib Board family. Known as Gib Vinyl, the board is

coated with an attractive durable vinyl surface in a range of decorator colours and patterns. Gib Vinyl, backed with foil, combines all the advantages of Gibraltar Board with a vapour barrier and a completely decorated finish — no stopping, papering, painting or whatever. The newest addition to the Gib product range is Gib Cove, a cornice made from fire resistant gypsum plaster. It has the same advantages as Gib Board—it will not shrink or distort; it is quick and easy to work

with and very econonomical. Gib Cove is easy to mitre and butt joint to give a continuous length. Gib Reinforcing Tape is a special paper tape which provides stronger joints when used with the horizontal method of board attachment. Two compounds are used in making Gib Board joints: Gib Bedding Compound is a controlled setting, non-shrinking compound used as the basic material for joints and for spotting nails and screws. A second application is used after the first has dried. Gib Finishing Compound provides the finishing touch. The finely ground compound sands down well to give an excellent. surface for all kinds of decorations. Whether you use the vertical or horizontal attachment systems, Gib Board is an excellent material to use by the tradesman or handyman but, as with all products, it is essential to familiarise yourself with the technique. A display showing the use of Gib Board is to be seen at the “Yesterday’s Houses Tomorrow” exhibition showing at the Building Centre.
