Sound trial for Trentham
Thomas Mellay advanced; his preparation for the Watkins Handicap at Trentham with a solo trial on the plough at Riccarton yesterday. He ran in from the 1400 m in I.34min 4s, quickening for the final 600 m in 39.85. Little Brown Jug worked easily on the No. 7 grass in the hands of “Tito”! Poblete, who has partnered him in three wins from as I many starts this season. ( The talented three-year-old; covered his last 600 m under! a snug hold in 425. Later his two-year-old! {stablemates, Athos and Fair (Rosamond, ran 600 m in 38s !and Desert Rose, easing in (the last fevV strides, returned ;39.85, and Te Tangata recorded 40.45.
