Nyah impressive winner at Riccarton trials

Et. Tu jumped out in front in the first trial for class 4, 5 and maidens and won by a lengeh and a half from his stablemate Angus, which shaded Dirk.

Ray Harris had planned earlier to send Et Tu south [for the Gore Guineas Trial, .but he will have Scotch Mist in the south for that race, and wishes to avoid a clash I of stablemates. i The second trial for class 4, 5 and maidens yesterday produced the best finish of a marathon programme. Heads separated Lyndon Royal, Jane Again and Spy Troop in that order, but Early Riser made it look easy in the other event for horses in that grade, winning by two lengths from Mystic Light, which was five lengths better than Darana. There were three trials for two-year-olds. One of the more interesting contenders ■was Bilberry, a First Consul filly from the Thistoll stable. She won the second heat by a head from El Pedro. Harris’s big team, won the first heat by half a length from Barmaker. Gilded CDast won the third heat by three lengths from Double Yoke, but went almost three seconds slower than Bilberry. The Riccarton Turf Club yesterday staged eight maiden qualifying trials.

The easiest winner was the former northerner, Sir Gambol, which won the second event by five lengths in Imin 8.35. But the fastest time was recorded by Leading Lady, a member of D. J. Thomson’s team. She won her trial by two lengths in Imin 6.65. Another clear-cut winner was Apply Roona. Although he drifted wide around the turn, he came again strongly and won by a length and a quarter in Imin 7.25. Grand Pep won the final maiden qualifying trial by seven lengths, but took Imin 8.25.

Others to qualify with wins were Westburn Son, Sleeping Beauty, Alazon and Fuila Cheer.
