Graikos chosen to make winning start to season
lh
G. K. YULE
Even though he has not raced since February 3. Graikos will be a popular fancy in the Christchurch Handicap, the final leg of the 1 .A.B. double and also the T.A.B. treble, at the Canterbury Park Trotting Club’s meeting at Addington Raceway this evening.
That February race re-|< suited in a grand win for? Graikos, with Lord Module, among the beaten horses.) ( and it entitled him to bell ranked among the top four-), year-olds of the season. , Graikos suffered a minor' setback when he started on,' the come-back trail this! spring, but he showed he had recovered fully with a < bold showing at the Adding-), ton trials last week. He will be opposed bv a useful field ef C 3 and C 4 pacers, but?
should be more than a match for the majority of I them. Philippa Frost, a most I consistent pacer this spring, has not been guilty of a bad 'run and she is expected to embellish her fine record. Able Gold, from Doody [Townley’s Tinwald team, has I also shown much potential. He is comparatively inexperienced and should be at |the improving stage now. Some of his performances .have been well above aver'age merit.
It is hard to imagine him: beating Graikos, but he could run him close. Logan Lea, West Street and Regal Law appeal most of the others on the front, but they will be extended to hold out Genesis, which has yet to win a race this spring. However, he has been responsible for some outstanding efforts and has been a most consistent place-getter. He beat all but the speedy Wing Commander at his most recent start on February 15 and
i; there will be solid support ?|to say that he will figure prominently in this finish. t The University Stakes, for : C2 pacers, and the Hornby . Stakes, for maiden pacers ) driven by probationary ; horsemen, are the other legs > of the T.A.B. treble. ; Aramis is entitled to be ‘ favourite for the first leg, > but betting will be well : spread in the middle leg, a t race in which three of the ■ leading chances could be t Emarusa, Loch Base and 1 Orientson.
