Murder charge in Bell case
PA Auckland A Panmure man has been charged with the murder of Margaret Hinurewa Ngahiwi Bell at Auckland on July 1. He is Brian Ronald McDonald, aged 26, an unemployed auto electrician, who appeared before Mr B. H. Blackwood, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court at Auckland yesterday. He was remanded in i custody to October 9.
McDonald told the Court that he wished to enter a plea to the charge. The Magistrate told him he could not, as the charge was laid indictably. “I plead not guilty, any. way,” McDonald said. He remained handcuffed to a detective during his brief court appearance. Miss Bell was shot dead in the foyer of a Queen Street cabaret. She had been working there as a part-time hostess.
