Hookworm case
A case of tropical hookwoim, or Anchylostomiasis, is among the notifiable diseases reported to the Health Department in Christchurch last week.
Hookworm is found periodically among people returning to New Zealand" from overseas, according to the medical officer of health (Dr F. Jepson). It is most often contracted when the victim has been in a village with primitive sanitation. Other cases of notifiable diseases in Christchurch last week included two of salmonella poisoning and one of bacillary dysentery. Under the heading of occupational diseases were four cases of impaired hearing caused by occupation, and one case of chronic lead absorption.
