Backing for Corso

The Volunteer Service Abroad organisation has asked the Government to reinstate donations to Corso as tax-deductible items.

The chairman of V.S.A. (Mr G. J. A. Kerr) said that Corso’s work overseas had not been adequately acknowledged during the present controversy. Corso had earned a high reputation for its humanitarian approach in the Pacific, Asia and other developing areas of the world.

Removing Corso from the list of aid agencies for which donations were tax-deduct-ible discriminated against New Zealanders who in good faith wished to support Corso’s overseas aid projects, and against the people who were assisted by these projects, Mr Kerr said.
