Carless day off?
Christchurch motorists who have chosen Wednesday as their earless day will have to wait and see whether an exemption will be granted if the bus service stops tonight. Any decision on a blanket exemption from the carless-day regulations will have to come from the Ministry of Energy in Wellington, according to the Traffic Superintendent for the Southern Region of the Ministry of Transport (Mr A. Goldsmith).
Ministry of Transport executives in Christchurch would meet this morning and the Wellington head office of the Ministry would be told of the situation, he said.
From there, the case for Christchurch motorists would be made to the Ministry of Energy,
