Govt helps fuel talks
The Mobil Oil company is getting strong Government backing in its negotiations for a shipment of aviation fuel, a spokesman said yesterday.
Negotiations should finish within three weeks, Mobil’s public affairs manager (Mr T. R. Bayley) said. ‘‘All the signs look encouraging — far , more encouraging than they did two weeks ago.”
The shipment is expected to be bigger than the 2000 tonnes expected by Shell (N.Z.), Ltd, in November, and should arrive in December. It is believed to be part of a cargo destined for the Pacific region, and other Pacific countries are negotiating for shares in it.
Mr Bayley said that existing supplies of Avgas, which is used by aero clubs and aerial topdressers, were “very good.”
