Shivaree should win in farewell at Waikato
Special correspondent Auckland » , appearance by Shivaree. in his last start before being flown to u- e -i urn F f° r assignments in the spring, will be a bright feature of the Waikato Hunt's meeting at Ellerslie today.
.i. S s ,varee is having his third race since coming back from a winter lay-off in the .Master s Handicap, first le° of the T.A.B. double todav over 1600 m.
The big one being set Shivaree in Melbourne is the W. S. Cox Plate, run at Moonee Valley on October 2". He has to go 2000 m in that one so it has to be expected that he will be ready for a showing this time, even though burdened with 59kg. the top-weight by skg Avenger looks the best prospect next to Shivaree. He is thoroughly consistent Better Be Good and Morven Chief are also entitled to respect, each having gone close last time out.
Shivaree, a star in Svdney last autumn, finished fifth in his first race back from the winter, a sprint at Avondale, and third the later time, beaten only narrowly and
the fastest finisher over s 1400 m at Hastings on Sep- t tember J 9. f Avengers last-start fourth placing was behind Golden Key at Te Aroha last Saturday, over 1600 m, and Better Be Good came second, last time, behind Bayshore at Tauranga on September 22. The Master’s Handicap will be the first leg of the T.A.B. double. The field for the second leg. the Wynn Brown Memorial, a class 2, 3 and 4 over 2200 m is fairly moderate and not easy to pick. Fancy Edition, judged by a sixth placing behind Merman at Ellerslie last Saturday is one of the better prospects. Sun Song, Frippence and Major Roll could also go well. Two visiting top weights, Glandovey from Awapuni, and Thumbs Orf, from Wanganui, give plenty of
strength to the field for the Waikato Hunt Cup. Bean's! Beau is also a prospect.
