Melbourne trip for Golden Key
Special correspondent Auckland Golden Key will race in Melbourne this spring, adding considerably to the strength of the New Zealand team seeking the rich prizes at Caulfield, Moonee Valley and Flemington. To start with Golden Key was to be set the weight-for-age, shorter races at home. He is being sent to Australia now that Mrs P. T. H. Wong, who races the horse in partnership with her husband, will be attending the big Melbourne spring carnival meetings. Neither Mrs Wong nor her husband has seen the horse. In Melbourne, Mrs Wong will see him contest the W.S. Cox Plate at Moonee Valley. Then, all
going well, further big races at Flemington.
Golden Key, which has ‘ been developed by VV. Sanders, of Te Awamutu. into one of the best gallo- . pers in New Zealand, will be trained in Melbourne by G. M. Hanlon at Mordialloc. <
In his latest start Golden Key won the Herries Memorial at Te Aroha last Saturday. He was successful earlier this season over 1575 m at Ellerslie. His class was shown last season when he won seven races, including guineas events at Wanganui and Avondale, three at weight-for-age and the Avondale Championship Stakes. He is booked to be flown to Melbourne, along with Shivaree, on October 9.
