N.Z. package holidays praised by Minister
The Minister of Tourism ;Mr Cooper) has praised Atlantic and Pacific Trave! and United Holidays for their new package of Gitaway New Zealand Holidays which is aimed at encouraging New Zealanders to see their own country first.
Expressing the Government's concern at the big drain being made on foreign exchange reserves by New Zealanders travelling overseas, Mr Cooper said he was heartened to learn that New Zealanders were being provided with the incentive to holiday within their own country.
“As Minister I could have no part in launching a campaign designed to promote travel overseas,” said Mr Cooper at the launching in Auckland. Gitaway New Zealand Holidays are being promoted in conjunction with Air New Zealand, Mount Cook Airlines, and the Tourist Hotel Corporation and Travelodge chain of hotels.
Details of the holidays are included in a 32-page colour book available from most travel agencies. Itineraries include an eight-dav “Alpine Adventure” ($520 from Christchurch), four days at Waitangi ($303 from now until mid-April), eight days in the Bay of Islands
($4OB until mid-April), and eight days at the “thermal wonderland” ($340). The rates quoted are on a share-twin basis in rooms with orivate facilities and represent savings of up to $6O. Cheaper rates are available between April 15 and early October.
