Hobart to host major travel convention
Five hundred representatives of international airlines and other sectors of the travel industry will gather in Hobart later this month for the annual convention of the Travel Agents’ Association of New Zealand. Guests will include the Minister of Tourism (Mr Cooper), the president of the Pacific Area Travel Association, Mr Akira Kato, of Japan, and Australia's Minister of Tourism, Mr Michael Barnard.
It will be the first time that the travel agents have held their convention out of New Zealand since 1976 when they met in Fiji. The last two venues were Queenstown and Hamilton. The theme this year will be “T.A.A.N.Z. into the 1980 s; don't gamble, plan." New Zealand's Tourist and Publicity Department will take the opportunity during the conference to promote New Zealand as a tourist destination.
