Call for ties with Australia
PA Wellington The New Zealand Chambers of Commerce support closer economic ties with Australia. “Trade in the Asian Pacific area is changing rapidly and New Zealand has to be part of it,” said the presidtnt of the chambers (Mr D. Fine) after meetings with the Australian Minister for Special Trade Representations (Mr Victor Garland).
“The energy crisis has changed the relativities between countries,” he said. Mr Fine said it was now the time to face up to the changes. “We support Government initiatives in this tatter and if some closer economic association with Australia can lead to benefits for both countries by sharing energy and other natural resources, New Zealand will present a much stronger force in the world,” said Mr Fine.
